Ichigo and Renji are very similar in a lot of ways. Therefore, IchiRuki and RenRuki are similar, in a lot of ways (snarky, witty, violence). What has always distinguished these two relationships from each other, at least in my opinion, is that RenRuki is more...well, the best word that I can come up with at 2 in the morning is - soulful. (No pun intended.)

IchiRuki is cute. It's canon. It's probably going to happen. RenRuki has always been more mature (with the childish fighting - only in comparison to IchiRuki). Renji knows Rukia better, I think - for obvious reasons. And while none of the two men will easily pour out their hearts in a gut-wrenching soulmate-love-confession, Renji would do it before Ichigo. His age, and the fact that he's known Rukia longer give RenRuki a more 'adult' feeling than IchiRuki. Or, maybe it's just the fact that we know, and Ichigo and Rukia know, and Renji knows that IchiRuki will have to happen someday.

I hesitate to make this allusion - it's like Christine/Raoul and Christine/Phantom in the Phantom of the Opera. You know she'll end up picking the younger guy - but the Phantom knows her heart and soul. Not that Renji's even slightly Phantom-like. Especially since his actor can't sing in that musical. *dodges vegetables*

So thus, I'm a diehard IchiRuki fan, but I love RenRuki.


This took about 5 hours, since I actually worked really hard on the shading this time round. It would be better, if stupid CS2 would stop giving me problems. ;_;
